The motor in question is very very difficult to start when cold, but once started it will start up first crank of the motor every time without a problem. Sometimes it seems like it floods. Other times it seems like it is not getting fuel at all. When starting it i do exactly what it says in the manual says. Pump bulb until it becomes hard put engine in cold starting, by pushing the button and putting the stick forward into the first notch. Help! gotta get this starting more reliably before i take it out!

Re: Problems starting 1985 merc 60

Hello

1st - With new pre-mixed gas in the tank, press the fuel line primer until hard.
2nd - Raise the cold start lever to max.
3rd - Press and hold the choke button while cranking. The engine should start up imediately.
4th - Lower the cold start lever to normal idle.

Do all of this with water to the engine.
