what causing spark plug shorting out?

hello, export

I have1964 Evinrude 28 hp,2cylinder. the motor calls for Champion J4J.
a sale men cross referance to J4c plugs. Are those the right spark plugs?

I also noticed that my plugs go dead quit fast. I wonder what caused it to go bad that fast? Thank you

J4C are the currently recommended plug. Gapped at 0.030 "

Running on 50:1 mix ?
Using a TCW3 oil?
Carb mixture settings correct? ( See Joe Reeves Instructions on the Engine FAQs board or TDs "Top Secret File")

May be overdue for a decoke ... Seafoam treatment. ( Also see TD's Top Secret File)
