Any have any experiences with this model?

Just wondering if they were decent tractors and if they held up well over the years. I'm looking for an older tractor (no $$$ for the newer stuff), to just use and avoid a basket case restoration.

I know nothing about the JD other than I see a lot of them still around...For a similar sized tractor, you might consider the Ford 4600. We have a 1981 that likely has 15000 hours on it...don't know for certain... The hour meter broke years ago. It has been a bullet proof tractor. We have abused it for years and it just won't quit.

John Deere are good tractors. The 2010 is one of the most bullet proof tractors out there. As bullet proof as the 4020.

Re: John Deere 2010 Tractor

Looked at one at an auction yesterday. Looked is about all I could do.

It was in really nice shape for a 64', but may be a little bit big for my needs. Just need a small tractor with live hydro and PTO, that will run a loader and bushhog.

$4300 - Ouch!

Thanks

The Ford 2000 diesel tractors are good ones, you might even consider a Kubota if you don't mind buying Jap stuff. The Kubota's are good tractors. Sadly, even JD's made today under 25hp have Jap motors in them I hear. JD tractors of course will be the most expensive.

Re: John Deere 2010 Tractor

You can't go wrong with a John Deere. As mentioned earlier, the 20 series tractors are bulletproof. I spent my childhood summers on my grandparents 1973 2030 Deere in the hay fields and mowing pastures. The pics below are of the 2030 I am talking about. After my grandparents passed, it pretty much set in the pasture for years. One day, I decided to cut the small trees from around it and drag it out of the bushes. Believe it or not, I put a battery and diesel in it, primed the fuel system as best I could and it cranked right up. They are great little tractors. Thanks, Steven

Around these parts even the old 8n and 9n fords that run with no attachments are going for 2 to 3000 dollars. Thirty year old Kabotas with loaders (7100 series) 5 to $7000. You are going to have to do a lot of looking and have to have some luck to find a unit that is not a basket case for a decent price. Sometimes going bigger than what you think you need can be cheaper. Seems that everyone that owns more than 2 or 3 acres now wants a small tractor and they are priced accordingly.
