newbie with johnson problem. HELP!!

hello all im wes and i have a problem with my johnson (boat motor haha) . anyways i believe its a 1971 and its a 50. the problem im having is that the prop isnt turning when its in forwards or reverse. i havent had it in the water yet, this is just when i have the hose hooked up to it. when its not running and its in forward or reverse i can turn the prop very easily and if i go back and forth with the prop in hand it makes a clunking noise inside the lower unit. i have no idea if this is normal. im new to boats so please go easy on me. any help would be awesome.

Welcome! It sounds like you have an issue with the lower unit, first I think you should confirm that it is in fact going all the way in gear, if it is then the next thing would be to remove the lower unit and inspect the shaft and gears to see if there is any physical damage.
