U-Joint and Gimbal Bearing removal/installation

Does anyone have a good reference on the proper way to remove and install new U-Joints? Also, how do you test and if necessary replace the gimbol bearing.
it is an older R/MR/Alfa drive attached to a 1977 Mercruiser 350 CID 250 HP engine.

If you search you will find the correct manual for your drive with instructions.

When it's bad the gimbal bearing will make noise - grinding- when the wheel is turned completely to either side.

I have been searching the web and all I seem to find are groups of folk will to sell me the parts. One site told me to take a 1/2 steel rod and beat the gimbol into submission. the way I see it, one slip and I need a gimbol.
