Dont know the year of boat, my best guess is a 68 starchief, it has had its cabin removed though.
The drive is one of the old mercruiser ones with the eye bolt hole on the top of the cover
Engine im thinking is to be a 470, but heres where it gets wierd.
Looking at pictures of other 470s, this one looks different as the cooling system is not closed. After scratching 5 layers of paint off the block, im certain its NOT aluminum. It has a mopar FE 134 oil filter on it (that it popped btw) and the block has "HECHO EN MEXICO GM 27700" cast into it.
So what in the world is this thing!!??
I cant find a real serial number on block aside from a mercruiser tag with 6318263 on it, which makes it an 83 vintage 470, but it doesnt look like one :)

Anyways, pictures to follow

Thanks

this is my first boat, and it was CHEAP.
Im great at fixing stuff, so im not to scared to take on projects :)

How do you mean, it might not match the engine? they seem to fit nicely at the bellhousing?

Your drive is probably original to the boat, only the engine was changed to an 83.

Re: Help identifying engine in old starcraft

usally it would state the hp of your engine like 120/140 on your outdrive but i might be wrong. yours says 200 it will work but the gearing may not be optimal for your engine . you could just put a different prop on but that is down the road when you get her on the water. i have a 120 in my boat not a whole there and used and new parts are reasonable. mine is almost to the point of replacing manifold and elbow but still runs like a champ.
