I have a 1979 55HP evinrude. I am trying to replace the water pump but cannot get the foot off. I can only see five bolts, two on each side and one right behind the propellar. I removed them but the foot would not slide out. I have tried twisting, hitting with a rubber mallet, but it will not come out. Is there something I don't see? I don't want to break off the flange around the foot. HELP!

Re: JoLo

There are manual shift models and electric shift models.

The parts list shows the manual shift on the electric start motors and the electric shift on the rope start models but I bet that's the wrong way round!

You will have to disconnect the wiring or the shift rod as appropriate.

There is also a 6th bolt hidden behind the trim tab, at least it is shown on the manual shift models. Remove the trim tab and look there which ever model you have!

If it don't come off easy look for the reason why, don't beat on it. I learned the hard way. tried to remove a transmission from my truck, long story short, didn't see the bolt on top of the bell housing. I got the tranny out but is cost me a bell housing :(
