Hello,

I have a 74 mercury 500 with T bolt ignition, which i dont have any sparks onn the 4 plugs.
Is there a way to test the Switchbox? or any other way to find the problem?
Thanks for any help.

Check the simple things first. Disconnect the mercury switch at the switchbox ( brown wire , I think. Trace it out). also the salmon wire which should also connect to the switchbox on the same terminal as the brown. These both will prevent spark when grounded either through the mercury switch (brown) or the start key (salmon) in the off position.

Ok, I will check that out and see if that is taking care of it.
I am not sure when the motor ran last time. I did get it with the Boat, which had a 65hp on it but lost one cylinder on that one.

If it would be the mercury switch, can i run the motor without it? what is that for?
I guess these switchboxes need to be replaced often it seems, so that is why i thought I check there.
Is there a test procedure for the Switchbox if the off switches don't seeem to be a problem?

I will be with the boat next week, but will not have any internet acess where it is.

Thanks for the tip.
