I have a 1998 Johnson Venom 225 that runs great but it will not shut off when I turn off the key. I checked the engine and the passenger side cylinders are still firing with the key off. I had to pull 1 sometimes 2 spark plug wires to get it to shut off. The other side of the motor is killing the power when the key is turned off. ANY IDEA'S.

Re: Johnson Venom

yup. it's a boat, so we don't know which side is the "passenger side". If you say "port" or "starboard" everbody'll know what you're talkin bout. :)

the kill circuit is a black wire w/yellow tracer, one from each powerpack. To shut off the engine, the kill wire is connected to ground, short-circuiting the powerpack and killing spark. The kill wire on that side has an open circuit fault. That or else there's an internal fault in the powerpack. Could be at a plug, where it looks like it's plugged in ok, but the pin inside the plug isn't making contact.

Meanwhile, choking it should make it stop.
