I have a simple aluminum boat with a small metal nose bow and a bow mount motor that I need to mount but don't have a clue how to fit a secure deck for the mount. the boat was not designed with a deck.

I did manage to find a thread with a pic in the iboats forums:

I see two small metal plates with unknown amount of rivets....should I mount these on the gunnell piece or through the thin aluminum?

Or is attaching a frame to the seat mounts and then to the deck mount floor a better idea?

It is a 55lb thrust motor, the material I am planning on using is 11 layer ply 3/4" and I have no clue : P

Re: bow trolling motor mount deck

I had a 14' tinny that I bought brand new and the trolling motor deck was just a peice of 3/4 ply wrapped in carpet no support from gunnel to gunnel it was screwed in from factory and I drilled out the holes bigger and bolted it down never had any problems in the 3 years I ran it that way .if you want to add the support it won't hurt but it's not needed the ply is more than strong enough.
