I have a 1987 25 horse merc serial #ob244539. I just purchased it and it hasnt been run for a while. It ran good first day then the problems started. First the fuel pump diaphraghm was leaking, we replaced it. Still more problems, wont start or stay running. My mechanic buddy says the float is 3/4 full of fuel and says he dont think that is normal. Do I need a new float?

Re: carburetor float

Yes you need a new float. There should be no fuel in it. Replace the needle and seat while you are at it and use new gaskets when reassembling.
