gas problems????

When I run my engine til the gas is kinda low it will kick down and only run around 2000 rpms and will not throttle up. we have changed bulbs and added gas but it doesn't straighten up til it cools down ...It runs fine when we first start out for about an hour. its a 75 mercury

sounds like electrical problem or over heating.
you need to give more info. serial no. year of motor.
