I have a 16' SS, 1976 vintage.
Need a trailerable cover that actually fits, windshield-bow-transom.

Don't want one with elastic sewn into the hem, as they are too hard to put on by myself.

I would like to know what any of you are using, that actually fits.

How does it hold up, particularly around the windshield corners.

Any recommendations to actually help with the wear points?

Please include enough info so I could order the exact same cover.

Or am I going to have to take it out to the Amish canvas shop and have then make a custom fit cover.

Thanx in advance.

I have a Classic Covers one I bought at Canadian Tire that works good. About $100.00. I took pool noodles and slit them open on one side , they slide over the window frame top and stay put protecting the cover.

I haven't had much luck with "universal" covers either. I've had to build all sorts of tent frames and bows to keep covers from puddling. The pool noodle on the windshield frames is a great idea. Maybe someone will post and say I tried this one and it fits perfect.

I can't believe I haven't run across you before Roscoe, since you post so much. You might be the closest I-boater to me, I'm right up the road in Phillips.

Re: Need a cover that FITS - '76 16' SS

Gonna let this thread float for a while, as the boat is still in the planning stage. Don't want to jump and buy the wrong cover and waste money.

sykler - nice restoration threads. you obviously have more time, money, and fab skills than I do. :)

My 16 SS rebuild will be a fishing conversion, not a restoration.

Almost went with an 18' SS, found a real sweet one, but the added 500#, plus 200 more I want to add, meant that I would need a lot more hp. I already have a 50 hp Merc with less than 50 hours on it.

Anyway, nice to hear from you.
I hope to get up your way to Pike/Round some day next week, then up to Club 13 for some of their scrumptious broiled stuffed mushrooms.

Here is a pic of how mine fits, I added a few extra straps and modified it at the back to fit around the motor, and it trailers very well. I pulled the boat behind my fifth wheel 700 kilometers in a bad wind whith no problems. I can find the Classic part # if anyone wants it.

Roscoe I'm in the same boat as you, in this case literally.:)

I would love a bow cover especially for towing and to keep water out when not in use.

I've gotten quotes around $200 for the bow cover and $650 for the canvas top. Since I can't afford quite that much(almost more than the whole rig) I am open to options here.

Good luck to ya, I'll let you know if I find a good source.

dozer, that does look pretty good.

If you could get the model #, or the upc off the box, or the manufacturer, it would be much appreciated.

Will be over the border soon, and go right passed a CT store in Thunder Bay.

Roscoe are you gonna post some photos of your rig for us to check out?:D

Sorry...I thought you were referring to a camper top and bow cover...I'm using an extra cover that was from a 17' rig on my SS. It's pretty cheap and thin so I will be looking for a replacement before long myself.

maybe, someday.

Picked it up an eternity ago, or so it seems.

It was supposed to be done by March 20th.
But so far, all I have done is buy stuff for it.
Its still sitting with a rotted floor.

But, I have bought:
nautolex flooring
10 led lights
bilge pump, hose, thru hull
fuel tank
battery and fuel hold downs
battery box
battery maintainer
2 bank onboard charger
emergency ladder
steering kit
8 rod holders
led nav lights and bases
tempress seats
238 bases, pedestals, and swivels
fuse panel and buss strip
switch panel
Access hatches
grommet/boots for cables in splashwell
a new galvanized trailer

Oh, and this is not going to be a restoration. It will be a hull revival.

Life has gotten in the way the last year, and with the wife being sick, I'm not finding much time for the boat. When I get that far, I will post a thread.
Until then, I'll keep using the 15' Lund.

roscoe, the cover is a Classic "Hurricane" model B, upc 52963 84028. If you want to add a few extra hold downs I use these and they work great no holes in the cover and they never let go. A bit of a bi@# to put in though. Canadian tire # 76-3085-0

Did somebody say Tempress seats and 238's?

Thanks dozer, I'll see if I can find one before my trip. Otherwise, I'll stop at ThunderBay.

Re: Need a cover that FITS - '76 16' SS

Ok, picked up a cover, Classic Accessories, Orion model, size B.

It has a couple extra straps, and most importantly - does not have the elastic in the hem.
Instead, it has a nylon strap that cinches tight with a cam lock in the rear.
It also has a couple vents in it.

The cover was a bit too narrow over the front 2 feet of the bow rail, but since I have removed the rail, it fits perfectly.

Going to sew a layer of heavy vinyl on the inside, over the windshield area, and will be using the pool noodles for even further protection.

UPC on this model is 52963-83028 $130 Could only find it online, so it may be discontinued.

(had a cover like this for a different size boat a few years ago, it held up will.)

Cant really help on the cover but,
For the winshield i used a piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe and cut out about 1/3 of it along the length and then set on the winshield.
At the corners I used 1 1/2" 90's and cut them also.
Got it set right then glued it up.
No more holes in the cover from the windshield.
