Im working on installing a new Gimbal bearing in my 2001 Volvo DP-SM outdrive. Could not figure out how water got in because the bellows looks great. I finally figured out that where the grease zirk is supposed to be is just a big hollow tube. So from what I can tell, Volvo has a plastic tube that is compression fit and the zirk threads into it. Ive looked at some of the post and it looks like some have taped and threaded for their own zirk. My question is do I install the factory fix with plastic tube, or is taping and threading the better fix? I dont even know what the plastic tube looks like but did order one. Just got the boat last year so I wasnt worried about grease until this spring but now I know how the water got in???
