I have a 1973 Mercury 25ss race engine that has a Quicksilver short lower unit with direct drive gear case (same gear case unit as used on Merc 20H). The prop shaft has a water pump cover that is secured with a large cone shaped cap with left hand threads. Inside the water pump cover are 2 sets of needle bearings each in an individual cage and each end of the cover has small rubber seals pressed in. What is the correct grease to use on these needle bearings that do not receive any of the gear oil in the gear section of the gear case?

The Lubriplate 105 has been suggested but it is labled Assembly Grease. The 105 is an NLGI #0 grease. Is any #0 grease OK.

I find nothing in the Old Mercury Master Shop Manual I have that has the dissassembly and assembly details of these Quicksilver lower units.

Thanks
