Pick up this little guy off craigslist, came right out of the ladys pool. she had it for her kids to play on/with. The pool guy refused to clean it anymore, so she sold it. $100 (too much?)

Its an 8' 1969 Dolphin, currently registered, with title and new tags.
Actually, it came with a tag for each year, up to 2011. Why register a boat each year that is used in your pool? But whatever.
This is now the newest boat I have ever owned. (closest runner up was a 1967)

Right out of my van

Now then, that has got to be wayyyyy to much of an angle for an outboard. Ideas on how to fix that?

I slapped my 6hp on it for S & giggles. the skeg is on the ground, thats why the angle looks ok. but it comes nowhere near the trim rod.

I gotta figure out how to get that newer style bottom attached- steering cable, to my front attached outboard. Ideas?

It has whats left of a throttle cable, I can figure that out. But how did they shift the thing? Reach behind to engage gear?

Also, think a 6hp will work? Boats rated up to a 20hp.

Think I should fix-up my QD-15 (10hp) or just go for my 73 20hp?

That looks like an insane amount of fun. Way cooler than a jet ski.

Lucky for me, its about the size of a jet ski, push the ski off my trailer, push boat on. I'm too old for the lifting it out of the truck method.

It was hard enough to get it out of the ladys pool, through her side yard, and into my work van.

Look at the small flat area on the front, starboard side of your lower cowl. You need one of these to go there ......

The photo shows one of my Johnson 6hp motors, but your motor should take the same bracket. Its a stock OMC/BRP part. The SS pinion retainer for the shift cable mounts on it and then the shift connector pin is inserted in the shift handle, as usual.

Picked up a QD-16 today (1955 10hp Johnson) that should move it pretty good.

Any thoughts on the motor mount? why such an angle?

Maybe to keep the nose forced down?

Should I just modify it to make it straight?

Stopped my my friend garage to go outboard shopping, most of what he has is too big, but mostly, out of my price range.

I have outboards that are ready to go, but where is the fun in that?!

Decided I wanted throttle and shift, so I grabbed what looks to be a similar vintage controller. to go with the newtome 10hp:
