I'm restoring a 1977 Mercury 850 Thunderbolt. Today I noticed a fuel leak near the pump, and it happens to be a cracked fuel pump cover. Are these still in production? If not, can it be fixed?

Re: Cracked Fuel Pump Cover

It's quite common (and very irritating!) for these to crack.

Does it look like the one (#10) in this diagram?:

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/M...U 7110997/FUEL PUMP AND FUEL LINES/parts.html

It's a $pendy little bugger for a hunk of plastic, even with a discount!

Anyway, if that's not it, jot down your serial number and go back to the main search where you can find your motor by year/ser #.

Be sure to order a new O-ring (#9), 'cause these typically stretch out and then won't seal correctly. And that cover screw gasket (#12) is important as well, if yours happens to be missing.

Yes, that does seem to be the part, but upon taking it to the local boat shop it appears there's an inlet on there from another model. The shop also informed me that the stock part was no longer available. Either way, I jb welded the sucker and the problem is solved. Now onto the engine knocking problem I already posted about.
