1979 mercury 40 hp electricstart and console steering. 2 cylinder

I have no spark, i switched the switch box out with a "Said" good one, and still no spark. I also tried to dissconnect the kill wire, no spark. Does this stator look bad? or is this normal wear? how can i test the stator and trigger? Any help would be great. just want to get back on the water.

Do a search on this forum or google CDI electronics. They have troubleshooting guides for just about any outboard as they manufacture replacement parts. You will need a VOM and a DVA adapter. The VOM ( preferably digital) you can get just about anywhere. You can buy the DVA adapter on Iboats i think or you can build one if your handy with a soldering iron. Just don't fall into the trap of throwing parts at it as usually there are NO returns on electrical parts which gets expensive in a hurry. You are right in not assuming that the switchbox MUST be good.Test everything you can. Most of the time you can't really test the switchbox ,but you can test everything else and eliminate everything but the switchbox.
