25hp Evinrude 1982, slips under load

I have a 1982, 25hp evenrude. It just started slipping under power. Trolls fine forward and reverse but as soon as you need power, the engine rev's but no power out of the prop. I did not hit anything, no jumping in and out of gear, simply slips. Is there a worn bushing or what may this be. When I put it in gear and grab the prop, I can not make it slip, it is like it is normal in gear.

Could be nothing more serious than a spun hub on the prop. Mark the hub and housing, take it for a short spin and see if the marks still line up. If not then you need the prop re-hubbed.

Probably not unless it is completely shot. Usually starts when under heavy load.

You will not be able to spin it by hand unless it's really toast, But as it just started to slip highly unlikely. Mark it and test it The hub is on the inside, you'll barely be able to tell it's there. But it is. A prop shop or OMC dealer can fix it or buy a used one.
