I have a 1983 Century with 350 Chevy and OMC Drive. The motor got water in it and it locked up. I am not sure how the water got in. How do I remove the engine from the drive? I want to pull the motor and rebuild it this winter. A mechanic friend of mine thinks we should put a Chevy 307 crankshaft in the 350 block to shorten the stroke and make it a 327. He says it will be snappier off the line. Is this a good idea? Will the OMC drive handle it? I am more happy with the power but since I will need to either grind or replace the crakshaft anyway. maybe I should go for more power.

Thanks for the help
The new guy

Torque Moves a Boat......
AND More cubic inches, not less will build more power.......

Punch your 350 out .030,+ add a 400 crankshaft.... Now your talking 383cid,+ Massive TORQUE......

bond-o couldn't have said it better. I have a 1990 Bayliner Ciera 2655 Sunbridge (28+' length, 9 1/2' beam) with a Merc 454/Bravo II. I've got 3 friends who all have mid to late 80's Bayliner Contesa 2858 Command Bridges (29+'length, 10'beam). All 3 have replaced their 350 Volvo's with 383 Chevy motors derived from the 350 block as well as replace their Volvo single prop drives with Volvo dual props. I actually have to work my 454 like a dog to keep up with them when they want to play, it's impressive considering their almost 2000lbs heavier than I.
