hoping for help, I have 1957 mark 55e which the powerhead and electrical seems in good shape it even has a intake wireing harness...I tested the started and spings up nicely but the drive line is not turning very well. I can turn it by hand with a socket but it is real stiff, the started gets it about one turn then gets stuck. I noticed the lower unit oil was dry and pretty crusty looking in the vent screw side. I am taking the lower unit off, I got the two main bolts on the sided and the lower nut next to the water intake vent, and the bolt inside the water exhaust. I have got the unit down but it doesn't seem to want to come all the way off the exhaust housing. any help would be appreciated.

Re: Mark 55 lower unit

Probably been on there a long time. If you got it to move, chances are you got all the bolts out. If its been awhile since the lower unit has been off a little gentle persuasion will get it the rest of the way. Just don't hit anything with a hammer, use wedges between the two cases.
