Gearbox removal- have have i undone everything??

Hi guys,

im trying to remove my lower unit but it wont move more than 1/8". i have a mercury classic fifty and this is my first time removing it. ive undone the trim tab,and the nut underneath, also the nut above the prop and the two side bolts as far as they will go!! have i missed anything??

If you got the bolt under the zinc anode, the rest are obvious. If it won't seperate, the driveshaft probably corroded into the crankshaft. There are many threads on this topic. You might search them up.

Gentle persuasion with wood wedges may do it.

I used a wood chisel to help separate mine. Be very careful. The aluminum dents easily.

I posted that with a question mark as I don't know how the Mercs were assembled. Mine simply mates to a splined rod but some older linkages had a coupler with a set screw/locking bolt holding them together. I had hoped someone else would chime in.
