I have a 100hp mercury outbd, 1990. I had an incident and broke the prop and damaged skegg. Limped back to shore. I have since replaced the prop, and repaired the skegg but I seem to have lost power on the motor. Best I can get is 25 mph, use to get 40 mph. Prop is not the problem, motor just seems to now kick into higher gear. I have replaced all plugs.....what else can I look for?

Re: loss of power

I am sure more got damaged other than the prop and the skegg. Did you look at the prop shaft. is it bent? I hope someone else will guide you in the right direction. But I am sure there is more to it than the prop damage.

Re: loss of power

Assuming you replaced the prop with the same size that was originally on the engine and nothing else changed, you need to look elsewhere. When you say the engine "kicks into higher gear" do you mean it revs higher than before? Do you have a tach on the boat?
If you bought a new prop but did not match the size and went to a lower pitch, your RPMs will increase and your speed will go down. If nothing else is wrong with the engine ( as mentioned, prop shaft issue, etc.) there can only be a few reasons. Is the engine running normally?
