I noticed when trying to start the motor, with the air cover off, that when i push in the choke to prime and start, fuel mix is coming out of the front of the carbs. Is that normal? It gets hard to start and was wondering if it is being flooded? Spark, compression etc are all good.

TIA

Sounds like it, choke it less and see what happens.:)

How much throttle are you giving it? I have seen a lot of people at boat ramps give it full throttle, hit the choke and turn the key then wonder why the dang thing is flooded. My motor starts best at a little less than half throttle and a couple seconds of choke. I think they all have a spot where they start best, you just have to find that spot.

When you turn the key to on and push it in, you are activating the cold start fuel primer solenoid. This solenoid will inject raw fuel into the front of the carb for cold starting, since the engine has no conventional choke butterflys. I have an older V4 which is extremely easy to flood. It requires very, very little choke application.
