I have a 1993 mercruiser MCM 5.0L serial 0f002209.
My drive is a Gen 2 serial number od899770.

My Manual calls for a V8-22 module. The one on the boat is marked V8-22A. Is this going to give me any problems with my timing advance? Thanks

Yes, it can give you problems. The 22A module is for a 5.7L engine and hits max advance at 4400 rpm. The 22 module is for a 5.0L and hits max advance at 3500 rpm.

So this may be my problem of reaching WOT rpms? I'm only reaching 3600 rpms at 22 mph by gps. It feels like I'm dragging a heavy weight at WOT. Thanks Don

It may or may not, depends what your initial timing is. The module gives you 22* advance, so you should have 12-13* at idle.

Good to know about the diff in the modules. Guess I'll check mine, if they're 22A's I'll dump them for 22's. 4400 for full advance is rediculously late.

Re: V8-22 or v8-22a ignition module

So I installed the new Module on the riser and tried to start the motor and had no spark. Turns out the new $400 dollar module was painted really nice and black by Mercruiser. With the paint so thick it would not allow the module to ground on the riser. It took me almost all day to figure it out. After all that the test drive went very well. My WOT is at 3750 rpms at 27 mph by gps. Does this sound right or should my rpms or speed be higher? Thanks everyone:)

I don't have a clue where you got it from, but Mercruiser does NOT paint those modules. I have insalled many new ones, and they were never painted.

If that Marina sold me a used painted Module for $400 I'm gonna bust that place up. I'm pissed.
