Well the story on this motor is........ My grandpa bought it and put it on his old 1970's trihaull in the late 80's and he has always takin care of it. Maybe put 5 hours a year on her. My dad bought the boat a few years back and ever since I could remember when running at idle whether in neutral or under way the motor would shake. Its seems to be getting worse every year.

Motor is 1987 70hp vro johnson

Now as far as maintenance goes I know my grandpa always did the simple stuff, plugs, stabill, lower unit oil change. We have also done the same and this motor runs very good and has been reliable for all this time with no major problems or breakdowns. So what could be causing the motor to shake at idle?

I do want to change the water pump because I know its never been done. Fuel filter if it has one and get the carbs rebuilt. Does any one know where the water pump is located? Do you just replace the impeller? Does it have a fuel filter?

Forgot to say the motor runs great after you open it up the shaking is only when idling in neutral and slightly worse in gear

Two things.

1. Look up "Decarb" in the FAQ's and do that.

2. Your idle mixture screws may be slightly out of adjustment. They do move a bit, over time.
