Gearbox removal problem

Hi, on my mercury classic fifty, im trying to take off gearbox, first time since i got it. ive loosend two side nuts, taken off one top nut and two bottom nuts but it still wont slide down at all. what am i missing? it used to come off no probs on my blueband 650??

Since you have had a blue band, I'm assuming you got the nut from under the trim tab?

If so, could be 'welded' together due to PO not greasing driveshaft and shift shaft. Some ppl hand the motor on a stand and hang weights from the lower unit to try and encourage it.

Hi, yes got the trim tab nut off too just seems like there is something holding it from the inside!!

Sometimes there is a nut under the trim tab that must be removed. Just taking off the trim tab is not enough. Search under there where the tab was.
