Merc 260 Stalling

The port Merc 260 (350 c.i. GM) runs like a top. The starboard engine runs great as well, but if I tap the gauge panel it stalls.

I know ... don't tap! ;) It's an '87, so the gauges stick and need a little nudging to get them to display accurately. I'm also concerned that hitting a wave will stall it.

All of the wiring is tight; connections have been cleaned. The port engine has no problems. This happens only on the lower helm, and regardless whether or not the key is on at the flybridge helm.

It's got me stumped.

Re: Merc 260 Stalling

Thanks for the suggestions. I swapped the switch and the tach and the problem stayed with the starboard engine. When I was swapping the tach back I found a loose splice. Someone had made a Y splice with a crimp connector for whatever reason, then abandoned it by cutting the new wire short. It now has a nice, tight butt splice and the engine runs great.

Thanks!
