Cleaned Carb, replaced diaphram in pump. When first launched it planes out and runs fine at WOT. Then the next time it boggs after 1/2 throttle. changed primer bulb and lines and clamps. :(:(
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 50 HP Force loosing power past 1/2 throttle

I had a similar problem when I first got my boat with a 50 hp Force. It would hit WOT when I first left the dock, and bog after that especially when loaded. Not knowing the maintenance history I changed the impeller and it helped. It was getting water, just not enough to keep it at the prime temperature. I also replaced the gear oil and the bogging went away. Hope that helps.

Re: 50 HP Force loosing power past 1/2 throttle

A similar problem here too.

How does changing the gear oil help?

I bought a 85 bayliner and it has a 85 force.
The guy said it ran strong last summer. He hit a rock,so i put on a new prop.

The problem is it runs fine up to almost 1/2 throttle, then boggs out.
Also runs fine going slow.
When i hit full speed throttle,it takes off,and then dies down.
Cant seem to get full speed out of it.
Plugs are new,did a decarb on it 3 times, and was still smoking, but im sure that is fine.

Used a new tank of gas,and new tank and did the same,so figured out its not that either.
checked the wire filter on the motor,it was good too.
Also checked the diaphram,its good.

Pumping the bulb did not make a difference either.

Any advise on what would be next to check?
Thanks,
Scotty
P.S.
Mabe a good way to check for spark might be to pull one wire at a time, and start it hu?
If i would notice a difference, that would tell me im getting spark correct?

Re: 50 HP Force loosing power past 1/2 throttle

When I got my motor it had been sitting for several years. I checked the lower unit oil and it was black so I figured it was fine and did several things including the impeller to try to get rid of the bog. The next season I changed the lower unit oil, it was black but stank really bad. It did help in my case. It's a cheap and easy thing to do anyway. Now I change it every year.

Re: 50 HP Force loosing power past 1/2 throttle

Impeller would have nothing to do with it unless the motor was overheating. Gear oil has nothing to do with it. Don't be scared, just look into your stuff. First thing to check would be the fuel pump. Order a fuel pump kit, should be under 15 or 20 bucks. Pull the pump and check for tears in the diaphragm. Make sure the check valves are opening and closing. Look to see if the filter is obstructed.

Do the fuel pump first, then we will walk you through the rest.

Other stuff to look into includes carb and spark stuff.

Re: 50 HP Force loosing power past 1/2 throttle

I had a similar problem last year when my 88 85hp would bog down especially when loaded with more than just me in the boat. Turned out to be a combination of the carbs not properly lynced and synced and the fuel recirculation system needed cleaning. once that was taken care of all was good. When you say "replaced carbs" did you put on a new set of used carbs?

find the specs on your ignition system and start checking resistance on components. I did this and found a bad Regulator/rectifier that was cutting my stator out at high rpm's

This sounds just like what I am going through. Replaced the fuel bulb & hose, rebuilt carb, replaced fuel pump and even bypassed the fuel connection in the motor housing. It still runs out of gas after half throttle!
