140 mercruiser putting in to forword

i just got the boat and when i take the throttle cable off it go,s in to forword and when the throttle is hooked up it just revs up and will not go in to forword please help :confused:

Ayuh,... Are you Sure it's the Throttle cable you're messin' with,+ Not the Shift cable,..??

ya it the trottle cable if i take it off and put it in forword i can rev it up by hand and seems to work fine with the trottle cable off
