I have pulled my drive (VP DP-S) to perform the gimbal maintenance and check alignment. According to the service manual, I need to apply Volvo Penta White Sealing Compound for Drives (p/n 1141570) to the six studs that secure the sterndrive. Is there a substitute for this? I am having some difficulty finding any at the local marine dealers. Also, I did not think this was a watertight connection, so what purpose does the sealant serve? Thanks, in advance, for your consideration.

I'm not familiar with your outdrive but sometimes it's recommended for corrosion protection.

Grease works wonders on those studs. You do not need some fancy special sealant. All you are trying to do is prevent corrostion between the studs and the drive itself. When you pull the drivel, clean it off with a rag and install a new layer of inexpensive grease and you will do the same thing as the fancy sealer, only better.
