Hi all. Im painting my old Supra with rustolium marine paints. I would like to add a clear coat on top of my paint job. does anyone know what product i could use???? Ive heard it isnt needed if its only one color, but I'v got some stripes and different colors that have some hard edges that need to be covered with a clearcoat. Any info would be much appreciated!

Welcome to iboats.

Rustoleum makes a clear but I have not heard of anyone who has been happy with the results.

Automotive clear seems to adhere and look the best but keep in mind...... clearcoat will only multiply headaches for repairs in the future.

Rustoleum w/o clearcoat can be touched up real real easy ;)

I painted my last boat with Rustoleum. The paint held up great but the clear coat I added to the top of the boat to help bring out the gloss of the metallic paint I used did not hold up. It developed a couple realy dull chalky areas after only like 2 years.

Thats what I thought... Ive heard from many people that the paint is pretty indestructible,- and clear-coats have all the problems (haze). I'm gonna live with the raised edges from the stripes and keep the gloss.. Thanks guys
