Re: Ouch...help make it go away

Get a good grip on it with tweezers or a small needle nose pliers and pull it out somewhat slowly so it doesn't break off .

Then soak it in alcohol internally and forget it ever happened. :D

Thanks, but that's where I'm having problems...not enough sticking out to grab onto. I've tried spearing it with a needle to pry it out some, with no luck so far...grrrrr

Re: Ouch...help make it go away

Make a slit or nick in the nail on each side of the sliver with a small side cutter or diagonal style nail clipper, then with a needle nose, or the same clipper fold back the piece of nail over the sliver and tear it off.

Now you have access to the sliver.

hope it helps

Take the pointy end of a razor blade and stab it and drag it out. Just try not to cut it off, but to stab it with the point. Your nail should work well as a back stop

Ok
if you have a dremel tool

use the edge of a sander /cut of wheel
slow speed. for only a split second at a time towards the end of your nail.
The heat it generates is real quick so go real slow.
then use a razor blade to peel the piece over the edge up.
then grab it with tweezers.
It works..
If you want security then after you disinfect it put some super glue over the split.

worked for me.

Old chinee commie torture trick! ...hmmmm? or was that to pull the nails off?:p

Oh man, that sucks! Follow all the good advice and proceed slowly. It'll only hurt for a little while!

Re: Ouch...help make it go away

I do a lot of wood working and that picture is very familiar.:(
I have a set of tweezers that would have that sliver out in seconds....doesn't do you any good though....you want it out in seconds, and I have the tweezers here....

Here is a link to the manufacturer's web site....

http://www.slivergripper.peachhost.com/Home.htm

call around to local stores and see if they carry the product, or call the manufacture and get the name of a distributor or retailer near you.

A truly accurate description of these tweezers would sound like a snake-oil salesman's pitch...you can pick fly poop out of the pepper with these....;)

Unfortunately that is in there very tight as the nail bed is dense in comparison with skin.I think once you get a good grip on it you will get it out.

I like the internal soaking in alcohol idea.

Use Ambisol or Ora-jel to numb the pain first, works like a charm

Re: Ouch...help make it go away

You should put it back in there and hang on to it. haha Never know when you're gonna be in a MacGuyver situation and need a sliver, a tampon, and some chewing gum to make a bomb to blast your way out of some diabolical trap. Or...frame it and the tweezers. New conversation piece. lol
