Steering between different motors?

Just wondering if the steering controls are universal between the different boats? I particular the smaller single cable steering systems. I am going from tiller to console with a '91 yam 30.

I assume you are talking about steering systems like the Teleflex rotary or rack and if so they should all be the same but of course you need the correct length cable for your particuliar setup..Other than length of cable they will fit any boat and are universal and the steering systems are not sold by boat make and model.

not sure what kind of setup, I was gonna buy a used one from the classified ads, taking into account the length does it matter if the steering wheel and steering cables was used on a merc, evinrude, 20hp, 50hp etc...
