per the manual my 2004 johnson 90 v4 2 stroke should reach 5500 rpm at WOT however im not able to reach more than 4700rpms and thats after i switched out the 14x13 prop for a 14x 11. when the 14x13 prop was on there i could only reach 4300rpms at WOT. motor start up well and runs smooth and triming the motor up does make much difference either

5800 is even better. I would try a 9" pitch ... it would at least get you over 5000 RPM. Basic problem is you are likely underpowered a fair bit, which is why a really low pitch won't get the RPM where it should be.

you may have to go down to an 11" or 12" diameter

is your pontoon boat overloaded causing it to drag, or is it floating out of the water nicely? pontoon boats are bad about dragging with too much weight. also check for water in the pontoons. you are slightly underpowered but an 11 pitch prop should make up for it. I had a 28' with a 100 that did about 5500 RPMs with a 13 pitch aluminum prop. I think you have motor problems. maybe 1 cylinder is down..check fire and check fuel lines for any cracks or bad connections also try pumping bulb at WOT and see if it makes any difference. If you have real heavy seating along with other heavy stuff it could be too much boat in the water to plane out.
