not sure if this is the right spot, but it's got a merc 115 so...

I have a gas tank that came with my boat, 18 gallon cap. half full of something that smells like gas. I have removed the tank and drained all the fuild, as I was getting to the bottom it got real dark yellow, varnish? rinsed it with fresh gas and have some fresh stuff sitting in it. Will the fresh disolve any deposits? Any other ideas as to what to do?

Re: Bad gas

If it doesn't already have one, install a water seperator filter and be sure to carry some spare filters for a while.

water separator is a good idea, I am more concered with any varnish type deposits, I will have the tank bone dry before it is reinstalled

Re: Bad gas

I'll probably be chastised for this but put 5 gals of E-10 gas in it and let it sit for a couple of days and then drain it again. That should get rid of the varnish.
