1977 35 hp johnson water pump

alright im new at this boating thing i cant come to comprehend the water pump on my engine every time it warms up the pump completly stops workin when it cold it spits and sputters but the impeller looks fairly good? if there is a leak at the exhaust cover would this be a cause?

A pump that look's fairly good could well be wore out.

The water pump, t stats, and pop it valve a cheap to replace compaired to wiped out power head I think less then $100 here on iboats.

your talkin bout thermostats where are they located and your right im gonna replace the water pump but why would it change during temp change wouldnt a temp change make the rubber impeller expand and create a tighter seal?

Have you actually inspected the impeller yet ????
