'78 85 hp johnson

Hi, can anyone help? I was wondering if the blocks and parts for a 78 85hp and an 88 90hp are the same. I have both and would like to build one motor.

Afraid you are out of luck by one year. The 78 85 hp engine is a small bore block and uses different pistons. In 1979 OMC standardized all rotating assemblies across all V4 hp models.
