Volvo 5.7gi Broken Water Fitting in Block

I have the 1997 version of this engine in my Four Winns Horizon 200. The circled brass T fitting which serves the dual purpose of spark knock detection and block drain broke off as I tried to loosen the drain fitting last fall. Very similar to this situation can be found in this thread:

Wow, what are the odds I'd have the same exact problem? Must be a pretty weak piece, because I was hardly using a helper bar on it.

I'm wondering how that original poster's repair turned out and if anyone else could comment on the best way to remove the remnants of that fitting from threads. I'm leary of EZ-Outs, but it seems like the right tool for this job and I assume a key point is to keep metal shavings from getting in there where they would likely damage the impeller or other components.

Anyone want to take a shot at this? Thanks in advance.
