My friend has 1989 Johnson GT 150 and the tag on the transome mount that has the model and serial number fell off. Is the serial number stamped or tagged anywhere else on the motor. The paper work was not kept up to date and hes trying to get it right. He said it was on there at one time but now is gone. Thanks for the help. Rory

Re: 1989 Johnson GT 150 serial number tag missing

There is a casting plug on the top of the block. Probably painted over. Should have the model and serial number on it. This attached pic shows a 150GT/XP from 1985. In some later years, there was less information on this plug. It may have serial number only, which only a dealer may be able to decode. Replacement powerheads often had even less information. When the block is machined, the factory will also stamp the porting a section of the web on the block, see attached. In this case it is machined as a 150. In the case of factory rebuilds or replacements, that information is often stamped on the side of the block. This shows a 150S (GT/XP) engine and the date of overhaul 6-13-85.
