1977 Johnson 140 HP

Does anyone know how to tell if the motor is a short or long shaft? My problem is the cavitation plate is three inches too high. I have been told either change the lower end or lower the transom, or buy an expensive bracket.

That motor was either a long or extra long shaft. Your model number should help out assuming it still has the original LU.

You would have to have the longer midsection and the matching gearcase.
