Where to get a new engine

I've decided to install a new engine in my 1996 Bayliner 2655.

I am considering $1600 from S&J Engines or $2000 from US Engine. Both are considered "remanufactured". I got a 350 from S&J years ago and installed it in my Reinell with no problems, but I'm interested in the claims from US Engine that they have more power, 280, 300hp models?

Does anyone have any opinion on where to order a new engine?

I plan to install the engine in a boatyard this time since the boat doesn't have a trailer.

Re: Where to get a new engine

Hi Matt,

A couple of years ago, I installed an engine from USENGINE in Kent.

They were pretty responsive and helpful. I'll probably use them for my next one... I am pretty sure that their engines that produce "more power" require the use of premium gas.

I would say the only disadvantage of S&J is that they're several hours away (by car) and USENGINE is just "down the road"

What engine are you talking about?

Regards,

Rick

From S&J:
Elgin valves, springs, keepers, retainers, cam, lifters and push rods. For pistons we use a Speed-pro or a Silv-Olite, Cleveite bearings, and Cloy?s timing sets. Everything is sealed up with a set of Fel-pro marine gaskets.
