I hate to post this but I needed to share the humor . I boat on a river that goes to the Atlantic and never considered to take a 14 foot boat out on the Ocean . I am very safety conscious and decided that a VHF radio was in order as some days there are few boaters out to offer assistance. I remembered from my racing days we had radios that worked great .. Found them , charged them up and looked , 22 channels including 9 and 16 , thought I was set until i did a radio check ..ON 16 " anomaly to coast guard for a radio check"

response was " anomaly this is Brad you got a UHF radio you dumb A** "

Ordered a vhf today

Re: Radio check

At first I laughed out loud.....

Then I realized, I don't leave inland lakes, and I could've easily done the same thing.

Too funny!!!

Re: Radio check

Just as a quick word of advice, radio checks are not permitted on channel 16 and the Coast Guard will not be to happy to hear you doing one on channel 16.

I wouldn't have known any better myself, but that is funny as can be.
