Water in boot... how bad a problem

I had a 25 hp Johnson that had water in the boot oil and ran it for years. My 40 hp Evinrude has some in the oil now. I bought the gasket kit but it looks hard to put in all those gaskets... is it a mistake to not fix it? Is there a gasket most likley to be the problem?

If you are going to do the job then do them all. Not worth the effort otherwise. My opinion is that it does need fixing.

You should fix it, or it will destroy your gears and bearings. Why not tell us what year your motor is, since there are different methods to repair.
