Temperature switch help

I have a 1982, 35 HP Johnson motor with remote electric start. The temperature horn began to sound intermittently today and we made it back to a dock. But after shutting down the motor, it would no longer start. In the remote starter box the temp. horn had gotten very hot, melted the insulator and shorted out to ground, blowing a fuse (that I have now replaced) contained in a yellow boot in the main wiring harness at the solenoid .
My questions: 1) Does the temp switch just cause the alarm to sound, or will it also shut down the ignition entirely, like the dead man switch?
2) Any ideas why I now have no ignition? (No electric choke, no starter function, completely dead--just as if the dead man switch were activated)?
3) If the engine overheated, what sort of damage might be likely?
4) How do I replace the temp switch? Is it necessary to remove the cylinder head cover to do so?
5) The parts diagram I have shows a thermostat at the position where the tan temp sense wire goes. Are the thermostat and temp switch function combined on this engine?

Re: Temperature switch help

Never mind. With a clear mind and a test light on Saturday morning I found all the answers and it looks like everything will work just fine.

Re: Temperature switch help

What was your answer because I have the same issue. Found my horn melted today and think it may be grounding out the ignition somehow. Thanks.
