hi, can any one help ?

i have a 1994 mercury 150 v6 outboard, all was fine when used last summer.
put boat back in water few days ago and it now has no reverse gear. throttle control feels normal and forward and neutral fine with no grinding etc. cables all seem fine to. when throttle back in reverse gear it revs like mad but no movement . only thing that has been changed from last year is the prop. i changed from a 19inch pitch ss prop to a 21 inch ss prop.

all very bizarre !

any help or advive would be greatly appreciated.

I'd bet if you check the lube in the LU, like you should have just before you stored it, you'll find water.....and rust.

An old catskinner once taught me.....grease is cheaper than parts.

While on the trailer and with the motor OFF.

Disconnect the shift cable at the motor shift linkage, while turning the prop shift into Forward, Neutral, and Reverse. If all shifts well then replace the stretched out/worn shift cable.

hi , thanks for your posts.

gear lube ok as it was replaced before boat went into storage and again few days before boat was put back into water.

will try the diconnecting the cable over next few days and go from there!

hi, problem fixed. the shift cable had slipped out of its holder at the throttle control end, all working as it should now.

thanks again for the advice
