operating temp for 4.3

I have a mecruiser 4.3 w/carb and an alpha 1 outdrive. My temp runs around 180. Is this normal. Its been like that all last summer and again this year. After searching through the forum it seems a little high.

It might be a bit high depending on how accurate your gauge is. When was the last time it had a new raw water impeller? Its located in your Alpha outdrive.

it was replaced two summers ago, i went wakeboarding four to five times a week all summer long last year maybe i wore it out.

180? is about right if you have a 160? Tstat in it. I have a 143? TStat and mine runs between 140? and 160?.

is it fine to run @ that temp or should i put in a 140? I put a lot of hours on my boat because when im out im driving the whole time.
