I have a 2008 smokercraft pro mag 161, it has what they call a hydro-lift hull i removed 50 hp merc 4 stroke and bought a 90hp e-tech,the merc was mounted in the second hole(from the top) from Smokercraft. Does anyone know if this would change with hp or brand

Re: mounting outboard

Start with the anti vent(cavitation) plate even with the bottom. then test and continue to raise it to a point just before venting becomes a problem.Your not likely to have to lower it.

Re: mounting outboard

thanks steelspike i mounted the motor today with the cavatation plate even with the bottom of the boat it seemed to work out pretty good the boat plains instantly and goes about 42mph....i took two people out in it and both seem to think the spray out of the back looks strange and i should move the motor up one hole???? i would hate to loose the hole shot or mph...i guess i should not be lazy and try it???

Re: mounting outboard

Smoker, that is the classic sign of a motor that is way too low. Move it up two notches not one and you will be very happy.
