Would a 1977 trim unit from a 140hp outboard fit my 1975 85hp outboard?

Re: Tilt/trim unit compatible?

I am not sure, I would bet they would but can`t guar., I just took a trim unit off a 1982 140 johnson and put it on a 1980 85hp evinrude and it worked perfectly.. only difference was the 1980 was a three wire system and the 1982 was a two wire (groung wire only real difference),hopefully it will work for you.. one suggestion heat the bolts mine were both used in salt water and I heated them (with map gas) and six bolts each unit, no breaks clean them on wire wheel and never seize them reinstall and you should be good to go just my expierence not much but worked well for me.. Good luck either way Bill

The PT&T units generally used on 140HP crossflow motors will not work.

Some 1977 short shaft 140 motors may have had the older style PT&T. The kind that will work have the pump outside of the transom brackets.

Look at the PT&T units in the 1976 V4 parts catalogs; that's what to look for. http://shop.evinrude.com/
