I have a 2001 Merc 150 OPTI i replaced the trim motor with an after market sierra version less than a year ago and was working great up until the past few weeks. Boat has not been run in several months. My trim motor will connect sometimes and power up and down and than it will start to act weak and even stop. A buddy of mine put the votmeter to it getting plenty of power from the batteries however the load reading was not right. We hooked up power to up and down switches (with a tool he had) adn the motor goes up and down. Seemed to be a bad connection on the battery???? Cleaned off the terminals a bit and it fired up and down great. Than a few days later it started doing the same thing. i checked all the wires for corrosion didnt see any. I redid the connection ground from the motor to the battery and still having same issue. I have clicking of the solenoid and somtimes it will work just fine for a second than fades out. FLuid is full and the trim motor (two wire) has only been used less than five times on the water.....any suggestions???? I am feeling defeated at this point. Want to try to fix it myself to take the little man out he is ready to go. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Re: tilt trim problems

Check the ground connection to the trim motor, and the negative lead where it connects to the engine...

If you have a meter handy and are confident with it, do a volt drop test....
